In this creative project for The Hunger Games, students create their own dystopian societies and present them to the class.

Creative Project

  1. Create Your Own Dystopian Society:
    • Have students work individually or in pairs to design their own dystopian society. They should consider:
      • The society’s rules and structure
      • The role of government or authority
      • How people are controlled or manipulated
      • Create a “propaganda poster” or a brief “news report” from this society to present to the class.
  2. Reflection and Discussion:
    • Students present their dystopian societies and reflect on how their creations relate to the world of “The Hunger Games.” Discuss:
      • How do their societies compare to the one in the novel?
      • What did they learn about the nature of dystopian societies?
  3. Closing Activity:
    • Quick write or exit ticket: Have students write a short response to a prompt like How has your understanding of power and control changed after studying The Hunger Games?” or What is one lesson from the book that you think is important in today’s world?

Extensions:

  • Compare and contrast “The Hunger Games” with another dystopian novel or film.
  • Write a short story or script set in a dystopian world of their own creation.
